Apple Guy Loses iPhone 4G, he gains holiday

Work for Apple? Want a free holiday? Great then all you need to do is lose your highly secretive camouflaged next generation iPhone 4G, have the entire internet go wild about it and make the event news and in return you'll be offered a holiday.

Well sort of in a round about way, as the guys over at intomobile report that Lufthansa Airlines decided to jump of the lost iPhone 4G bandwagon and offer the guy who lost the next generation prototype a free trip to Germany.

The reason being apparently the guy lost said much talked about iPhone 4G prototype, much to Steve Jobs annoyance no doubt, whilst consuming German beer, and naturally Lufthansa Airlines wants to give the guy who is probably feeling lower than Palm stock right now a chance to drink German Beer in Germany.

The free complimentary business class flight to Munich offer came via an open letter on Twitter which also says, "Upon arrival in Munich feel free to check out our new Bavarian Beer Garden Business Lounge and experience the best beer that Germany has to offer."

We're not sure if the loser of the iPhone 4G prototype will take up the offer, but perhaps a little time away from Apple and any wrath Jobs may bestow may make things seem not so bad.

iPhone, Droid and Rivals: Can RIM BlackBerry compete still?

According to an article over on Reuters, numerous analysts are saying that rival smartphones such as the Motorola Droid and the iconic iPhone along with others could keep snatching market share from BlackBerry until such times as Research In Motion can deliver an improved OS and browser.

Research In Motion's annual Wireless Enterprise Symposium which is held in Orland Florida, and runs 27 April – 29th April is expected to pull in thousands of analysts, developers, partners and BlackBerry customers, and many are wondering if Research In Motion is close to uncovering new phones which will feature "a compelling high end user experience."

Apparently analysts say that RIM could sweeten their smartphones with the addition of multitouch along with other easy to use, intuitive features which have defines the iPhone. According to Matthew Thornton, an analyst for Avian Securities, if RIM can deliver, he said, "I think that will put a lot of the naysayers' concern to rest."

Thornton went on to say that the expectation is that RIM Blackberry can't compete at the high end and thus have been increasingly pushing down price scale to the lower end.

However, Research In Motion says they are still a contender in the consumer market, but apparently analyst want to hear the details on how RIM plans to win the fight.

Also RIM may use the trade show to launch the high end BlackBerry Bold 9650 and low end BlackBerry 3G Pearl while speculation is that RIM will unveil the clamshell BlackBerry 9670 which may sport the latest BlackBerry operating system which we previously reported on.

Gizmodo iPhone 4G bin it, concept should be final production

Ok the new Gizmodo found iPhone 4G prototype looks hot, but we say bin it and use this concept as the final production.

Apple you should change direction totally and surprise everyone by making this the new iPhone 4G final production model, go on grow some balls and go for it. That would really sway people and knock all the news about the iPhone Gizmodo had.

This model is from designer Anthony De Rosa of ADR Studio, according to Redmond Pie this design has been inspired by the lost/stolen real next generation iPhone, Apple why would you release a smartphone that we have already seen, it leaves us with no surprise or excitement.

This should be the final production of the iPhone 4G/HD or simply iPhone, damn what will it be called it's a nightmare.

iPhone 4G Revealed: What’s the big deal?

By now everyone and their aunt probably knows that an Apple engineer stupidly lost a camouflaged next generation iPhone prototype and that the guys over at Gizmodo forked over $5000 to get their hands on the device and then went on to splash everything possible out to the surfing public.

The results of which has had the internet alive with bloggers, tech site, news sites, TV and others all reporting every conceivable aspect of the Gizmodo reveal and has been a major newsworthy revelation. There's even been a video of how Apple disguised the damn thing, which obviously didn't work as well as expected once Gizmodo got hold of it,

But let's be honest here, it's Just a Phone! Albeit an iPhone and one that is rumoured to be surfacing at the traditional time Apple unveil such devices. But when it boils down to it, what is the big deal?

Sooner or later everything is going to come out about the next generation iPhone anyway, whether its beforehand or after doesn't really make that much difference does it? It's not like anyone's life is suddenly going to end if we don't find out about what the new iPhone 4G, iPhone HD, iPhone 2010, iPhone 3GS2 or whatever it is being called these days, is it.

Come to that matter we don't even know what it will be called once it is finally revealed, although thanks to Gizmodo that may well be the only thing we no longer know.

So in the interest in finding out I put it to our readers, what's the big deal? Let me know why it's so important that we find out about what the new iPhone will be like before Apple is good and ready, let me know by voicing your opinions in the comments area below.

New iPhone 4G front facing camera great prospects for Gaming?

We are all familiar now with the recent news in relation to a certain iPhone being left or lost in a bar by an Apple Software Engineer and then somehow as if by magic it appeared in the hands of Gizmodo.

Although it has been reported previously here, just in case you missed it. Gizmodo couldn't manage to find out the whole hardware and the specifications of the iPhone 4G but one thing is for sure you just couldn't miss the front facing camera.

Pretty much anyone you speak to about the camera on the front expects that this is all to do with video conferencing, but lets think realistically on this how many of you guys out there actually use your devices for video chatting. Probably not many of you.

The camera will probably have more of an impact on iPhone gaming. We all know that the iPhone is a proven portable gaming console as both publishers and developers are gathering and creating games for the iPhone as well as PSP and Nintendo Dsi, sales are increasing at about the same rate. So why on earth would you purchase something that is only capable of gaming, when you can buy the real McCoy and have something that is a mobile phone but also permits you to use for mail, multimedia and also gaming?

The new iPhone is on its way and due here in the summer with the screen which has bigger resolution this will also improve gaming, a few things you can do with a front facing camera, for the younger ones out there you can add your face to your favourite games. Social networking while playing games, Nintendo like WarioWare and Nintendo like face tracking plus much more. Share your comments and opinions with us.

iPhone Commands 72 Percent of Smartphone Market in Japan

According to a recent study conducted by MM Research Institute, Apple and their iconic iPhone practically dominates the smartphone market of Japan and by the end of the fiscal year in March, Apple's iPhone held 72% of the Japanese smartphone market with 2.34 million handsets.

According to the article reported by electronista, the closest rival to the iPhone in Japan was Droid Incredible maker HTC with only 11.1% while local Toshiba came in with just 6.8%.

Shipments of the iconic iPhone were more than double the 1.1 million units which shipped in the previous year and Apple's quarterly results note that quarterly shipments in Japan for early 2010 are up some 183% when compared to the previous year.

The domination of the iPhone in the Japanese smartphone market has been credited to the "rough state" of rival operating systems, while both Windows Phone and the Android platform will only gain traction in Japan this year.

New iPhone App Britain’s got talent attracts 200,000 downloads

The new iPhone application Britain's Got Talent was only launched four days ago and already it has had an amazing 200,000 downloads from Apple's App Store, according to an article from nma.co.uk

The extremely popular Saturday evening light hearted talent show seems just as popular for those with iPhones. The app which has been developed by Kilrush Application Studios, part of the Mobile Interactive Group is free to download with Domino's Pizza as Chief sponsor.

Even better news if you like Pizza as Domino's are implementing a fantastic marketing campaign which actually lets viewers order food from their outlets straight from the application.

The application has video content from the show and also updates of any developments from the series. Content can be shared via social media sites. Head of Britain's Got Talent production company Mr Robert Marsh has commented that the launch of the app will allow them to broaden their digital reach and also to entertain and engage viewers whilst they are on the move.

Adobe Counter Attack stops iPhone Flash Software Tools

Looks like Adobe and Apple are at it again and this time Adobe has put a stop to Flash software code tools, Flash is very popular indeed and is used on media players, websites and power animations and much more.

We all now that the iPhone does not support Flash and many public statements between the two firms have clearly stated this, both counter attacking all the time. Adobe did release software aka Creative Suite 5 that had tools within to allow the iPhone to run Flash code into programs.

Apple updated its terms and conditions of the license where software developers had to sign to create iPhone applications, many criticised this. Basically in a nutshell developers were banned from using Creative Suite 5 and other similar software.

So now Adobe has halted development of future translation tools for Creative Suite, read the full story with quotes over at BBC News.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA Windows Phone 7 aka X7 Love

Now what would happen if you design a smartphone that combines the Sony Ericsson Xperia and the new Windows Phone 7 on board, well how about a smartphone called the X7?

The new concept aka XPERIA X7, created by Ahmed Adel Hossny Rizk, the X7 is quite a nifty name when you think about it. This concept mobile phone would be out of this world and could even be right up there to compete with the likes of the new iPhone 4G.

Main features of the Experia Windows Phone 7 would include 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen, Windows Phone 7 operating system and a 10-megapixel camera.

Sorry for the 'Love' bit in the title, I could not help myself because I do truly love it, now the design is in place why not make the smartphone. Go on can you, can you really do it Sony Ericsson, get talking, get to the drawing board.

Gizmodo iPhone 4G Is Final Design Says Analysts

Well now, remember that lost and camouflaged iPhone 4G prototype the guys over at Gizmodo splashed all over the surfing world, of course you do its been the high point of news this week and no doubt will continue to be of great interest for a while.

Well according to an article over on fonehome who grabbed their info by way of macrumors, the Gizmodo iPhone 4G is in fact the final design of the next generation iPhone in the view of top Apple watchers.

John Gruber of Daring Fireball who has a faily good track record at getting things spot of is of the opinion that the Gizmodo prototype iPhone 4G in "on the money," and says that one of the barcodes on the handset reads "N90_GVT_GE4X_0493" and according to his sources, that particular barcode is Apple's codename for the next generation iPhone.

Apparently the DVT part of the barcode stands for "design verification test," and Apple production milestone which "is very late in the game." Basically putting two and two together it all adds up to Apple getting ready to launch the iPhone 4G version which Gizmodo leaked.

Nexus One on AT&T Uboxing Video

Not as exciting as the leaked iPhone 4G no doubt and probable old news now but the Google Nexus One superphone has now received the traditional unboxing video treatment, but this time round it is the Nexus One released to the Big Blue network.

Yes folks the Nexus One is with AT&T and the guys over at pocket now have gone through the motions of an unboxing and recorded the event for your viewing pleasure which can be viewed below and lasts almost four minutes. Apparently though Google have given up on sorting out the Nexus One issues, which you can read up on (here)

As there aren't many Android platform smartphones on the AT&T network at the moment the Nexus One would appear to be the better option as actually the only other Android device AT&T offers is the Motorola Backflip, and of course especially if you don't want an iPhone.

Anyway being on the AT&T network makes this Nexus One unboxing video a little be different and makes a chance from all the iPhone 4G news we've been hearing of lately, so head on down and mash play to enjoy.

No HTC Droid Incredible For The UK Confirms HTC

For any of us Brits who have set their sights on the HTC Droid Incredible smartphone, you can now reset your sights on a different smartphone, perhaps the next generation iPhone 4G as we have recently posted a face off between the two; as the UK will not gain the HTC Droid Incredible according to an article over on nexus404.

Apparently the disappointing news comes by way of the official HTC Twitter account which confirms there will be no launch of a UK HTC Droid Incredible.

The HTC Twitter announcement did however give Brits a reminder that the HTC Desire "is now on the ground in the UK," like it is some kind of consolation handset, although the HTC Desire is available while the Incredible isn't so that's one thing.

Unfortunately the Twitter announcement didn't actually say why the HTC Droid Incredible will not be launching over here in the UK, so if anyone happens to find out feel free to drop us a comment letting us know why, and of course if we hear we will pass it along.

iPhone Will Not Gain Free Google Maps Navigation

If you are an iPhone user with hopes of one day playing along with the free Google Maps turn by turn navigation you are just about to have your hopes and dream dashed and trodden on as according to an article over on the boy genius report you're not getting it, contrary to our recent report that the iPhone will, you can check that out (here)

Apparently according to information gained from an article over on pcworld, Google has gone on record as stating they will NOT be bringing Google Maps Navigation to the iPhone despite a rumour that a Google product manager had said the free turn by run application would become available in the App Store in future.

So there it is, no free Maps navigation for iPhone users; however, apparently Google did confirm that the application will be ported to other mobile platforms so that's an upside.

Have to say at this point that I have an old T-Mobile G1 which has just gained Google Maps Navigation over here in the UK we reported on it (here) and it works just fine, best thing though is for once my old smartphone is "one up" over the iPhone, how sweet is that?

Lost iPhone 4G return taken as a Hoax by Apple?

Its easy to lay blame after the fact when something as important as the next generation iPhone gets leaked across the entire internet, but when it boils down to the bottom line who is really to blame? The guy who originally lost it, Gizmodo for paying $5000 for it and them reveals their findings to the masses, or Apple for thinking that someone wanting to return the iPhone was just a hoax?

By now you all probably know how everything played out once Gizmodo went public with the iPhone 4G, the net has been alive with the subject for the last few days.

However when it comes to apportioning blame for the security slip up with the iPhone 4G, Apple must take their fair share. Yes the guy who lost it shouldn't have, but then Apple must have allowed him to have use of the device outside the Apple camp.

Gizmodo has to should a portion of the blame as they did go public with their knowledge, but then as I have previously said any good tech site in that position would have probably done the same.

But the guys over at Gizmodo have posted an article which explains what happened when a source tried to hand the missing iPhone over to Apple. And what follows is how it went down from the Apple reps perspective that got the call…

"I work for AppleCare as a tier 2 agent and before the whole thing about a leak hit the Internet the guy working next to me got the call from the guy looking to return the phone. From our point of view it seemed as a hoax or that the guy had a knockoff, internally apple doesn't tell us anything and we haven't gotten any notices or anything about a lost phone, much less anything stating we are making a new one. When the guy called us he gave us a vague description and couldn't provide pics, so like I mentioned previously, we thought it was a china knockoff the guy found. We wouldn't have any idea what to do with it and that's what sucks about working for apple, we're given just enough info to try and help people but not enough info to do anything if someone calls like this."

So bottom line, you tell me who is to ultimately be considered as blameful in this fiasco, my view is that it is ultimately down to Apple, what do you think?

iPhone 4G with Gizmodo: Hardware compared to 3GS

Got to hand it to Gizmodo for what they have done with the leaked new iPhone 4G smartphone, and you have to ponder on the thought when it comes to Apple and the dilemma they are in.

Personally I think it is great for business that this new iPhone 4G made it into the hands of Gizmodo, think about it for a minute; Gizmodo nabs the device and millions of people visit Gizmodo's site and gives their personal opinion about the changed device, feedback is worth millions in this business. If consumers slag this phone off then Apple can get back to the drawing board and have a re-think, if the phone is hot property and much-loved then hey presto here is your new Apple iPhone.

Anyway let's have a little look into the differences with the hardware between the iPhone 4G and the iPhone 3GS, if this leaked smartphone is the real deal then there will be major changes.

The new iPhone has a slightly smaller screen compared to the 3GS model and it is apparently going to be somewhere in the region of 3.4-inches, the new model will display HD-ready content, which offers much more scope than the 3GS and that could mean 4x pixel density.

Looking at the photos Gizmodo has you can clearly see a front-facing camera, the camera lens on the back looks a little bigger than the 3GS and comes with flash for the camera as well, could the flash be LED based?

The iPhone 3GS has normal SIM whereas the iPhone 4G will feature microSIM, now seeing as the Apple iPad uses microSIM this could mean swapping SIMS between the iPhone and the iPad.

Many changes have been made and the one that stands out the most on the inside has to be the bigger battery on the new model, apparently it will give you 16-percent more battery life than the current 3GS model.

Other changes made to the hopefully real iPhone 4G is the secondary mic for noise cancellation, and you will also notice that the volume buttons are now split and not one whole button like the 3GS has, the power, mute and volume buttons are now metallic as well.

For more information and photos of the new Apple iPhone 4G, and lets hope this is the real new iPhone, please visit Gizmodo. Below we have put a little poll question that we would love for you to vote on, just read the question and vote, as this will let us know if you want this to be the next iPhone. (For legal reasons we will not be putting photos of the new device here, just visit Gizmodo for them all).

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

iPhone 2G hacked to run Google Android OS, Flash Support Possibility

Planetbeing is an iPhone hacker who managed to get Google Android OS onto the Apple iPhone 2G. Below you will see a video of the process of it running.

The video provided below courtesy of Linux on iPhone clearly shows the OS system running on the iPhone 2G, it can dual boot and run Android, which is great if that's what you want.

The man in the video shuts down the iPhone 2G and then starts it back up, when he does you can clearly see 'OpeniBoot', he has hacked and when he holds down the home menu button it starts to boot up Android.

Once the boot-up finishes you will see the Android logo on the iPhone display, he says that it is not production quality yet but merely Alpha quality.

He even says that Flash may be supported; please download the pre-built images and README here. Let us know if you would prefer Android OS running on the iPhone, or would you prefer to stick with what it has already.

The rounded design of the new iPhone has gone in favour of squared-off edges, and the casing is made from a different material, the battery life is also a lot better and is 16 percent larger than the 3GS model.

If Apple buys ARM other smartphones could suffer?

Here we go again, more rumours and speculations rising and getting hotter by the minute. It seems that Apple are showing a great deal of interest in purchasing ARM Holdings.

The impact though could be rather serious, couldn't it? What kind of an impact will this have on other Smartphones should this purchase succeed? We all know that Apple have an enormous space and it would supposedly cost them excuse the pun and ARM and a leg, no seriously it is said to cost around the $8 billion mark.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with ARM, they supply many of the chips which are inside the Smartphone including the iPhone and taking it in house not only would give it a huge strategic advantage over rivals but does seem to make sense all round.

An insider is reported as saying to the Evening Standard that a deal would make a lot of sense for Apple, as they could stop ARM's technology from ending up in everyone else's computers and gadgets. This is a wild idea and should be treated as a rumour only at this stage anyway, ARM have publicly distanced themselves from the news.

Great impact this news or rumour has at it has pushed share prices up. We will endeavour to keep you up to date with any further developments.

Wait for iPhone 4G, not worth buying 3GS: Roundup

The Apple iPhone 4G news over the last week or so has put us right on the edge of our seats, with many readers searching whatever they can about this new device. Since Gizmodo got their hands on the prototype it has been manic on the web, here is what we know so far.

The main design has been changed dramatically with the current rounded edges gone in favour for the squared off look, it now features a flat metal band, which looks stunning if you ask us.

The buttons on the side (Volume controls) are now metal and the mute switch, lock button, and volume buttons are all silver in colour and made of metal as well. The display screen is slightly smaller like we mentioned in previous articles and it seems to have higher resolution, even though Gizmodo could not count the pixels.

The new iPhone has a front-facing camera, so hopefully iChat coming soon and the camera on the back has a bigger lens, wonder if we will get to see 8-megapixels on the new device, it has been said to have camera flash as well and hoping it is an LED flash.

It is still a mystery what the internal XXGB storage will be, but hopefully it will go up to at least 64GB. The battery is a lot larger and Gizmodo has said about 16-percent larger 5.25 WHr instead of the 3GS's 4.51 WHr.

Instead of the old SIM card it will feature the new MicroSIM slot, this means you could use in the iPad as well. Now when you look at the release date you must set your mind back to when the Apple iPhone 3GS released, this model released two days after iPhone OS 3.0 update was released, now seeing as iPhone OS 4.0 is being released summer 2010 does this mean the new iPhone will release a couple of days after.

Is there any point in buying the iPhone 3GS? Well Engadget seems to think there is no reason to buy the new iPhone 4G, ok the current 3GS model is very good indeed and will be so much better once it has OS 4.0 installed but as they say we say also WAIT.

We and many other news sites has called the next generation Apple smartphone the iPhone 4G, personally we believe this will not be the name and that iPhone HD will be more fitting. What do you think the next iPhone should be called?

Google Maps finding its way to iPhone and other platforms

Here is some nice good news for your Friday morning courtesy of engadget.com via techradar.com in relation to Google Maps Navigation and your iPhone.

It has been extremely difficult to try and find a good free alternative to Google Maps navigation on the iPhone although Navigon's Mobile Navigator come out tops in the paid GPS area.

Google's own turn by turn navigation option is about to change all that and make any iPhone toting traveller out there grab an Android handset. Good news now for us all as it seems predicament wont be as difficult in the near future.

With Steve Lee from Google actually confirming that Google Maps Navigation would soon e coming to other platforms in due course. Apparently is has already been specifically mentioned as coming to iPhone OS and to be honest how nice would it be to see this alongside version 4.0. We will of course keep you updated as and when we hear more on this.

Video: Nokia N900 Helicopter Remote Control

Yes people there are other smartphone out there than the iPhone and taking a break from all the lost iPhone 4G mayhem and its huge amount of coverage I thought I'd bring you a little video entertainment that has absolutely nothing to do with an Apple device.

What we have here for your viewing pleasure is a little video courtesy of the guys over at daily mobile via my nokia blog of a guy flying a small helicopter by using his Nokia N900 smartphone as a remote control.

The video last just over two minutes and starts off with a bit of a fumbled attempt but the guy does manage to get the helicopter up and flying rather well using his Nokia N900 to control it. The Nokia N900 has just become available in India by the way.

Apparently it works over infrared so has a limited range capability and almost looks like it's being kept up by the Nokia N900 blowing up an air stream, still it's a cool video, and cool music too, so head on down and check it out for yourselves and enjoy.

Next iPhone 4G / HD prototype disguised, here’s how

Are you one of those that have been left a little baffled by just how the prototype of the next iPhone 4G happened to find itself outside of Apple's premises all round the city.

Apparently Apple makes a number of prototypes of iPhone with very different design models which are handed out to some lucky Apple employees for testing. The device being tested has to pass certain tests which are not actually possible inside the premises of the company. Basically tests that show the device working in normal life.

The apparent design of the fourth generation iPhone does appear to be different from what has been leaked through concept images around the web, that is until now. Apple rather cleverly have disguised the next generation iPhone 4G / HD prototype and it was almost impossible for anyone to actually find out what was hiding inside.

According to statements from Gizmodo, the purported iPhone 4G prototype was hidden inside the plastic cover in order to hide it in a way which made it resemble iPhone 3G. A great move from Apple to confuse us about the device and to allow those testing to be able to do so without drawing attention to themselves.

There are a number of different iPhone cases on the market, so if the iPhone case didn't match up to the body of the 3GS it would just be overlooked as another iPhone case, clever. So this is the reason people haven't "seen" the next iPhone 4G / HD before Mr Jobs makes his announcement during the summer. They are out there but they are in disguise.

Apple Earnings and Stocks: If iPhone sales drop should Gizmodo pay price?

We posted earlier today that Apple has reported record iPhone sales, you can view our article on the matter (here) but basically Apple execs are shouting as loud as they can that sales of the iPhone are "staggering and at an all-time high."

Which just goes to show how popular the iPhone is with the mobile public and that the iPhone will continue to be known as the king of smartphones for some time yet no matter what other smartphone hits the streets claiming to be an "iPhone killer," like so many before.

Having said that, as you are no doubt aware, or if not why not, the guys over at Gizmodo posted numerous stuff outing the next generation iPhone to the mobile public, so will this have a negative effect on how well the iPhone sells from now on until the iPhone 4G hits?

The question I put to our readers today in the wake of the Gizmodo iPhone 4G mayhem is if iPhone sales drop between now and June when the new iPhone is reportedly being launched, should Gizmodo be charged by Apple for any loss of earnings, as now the public knows what to expect from the iPhone 4G they may just hold off purchasing today's iPhone and wait for the new 4G model.
